I built High Ground because the tactic was never actually the problem.

For years, clients came to me wanting a tactic — messaging, content, a rebrand. What we usually found, once we looked closer, was a decision that had never been made. High Ground exists to do that deeper work — and to leave you able to run what we build, instead of depending on me to maintain it.

Katie’s Story

I've spent over 10 years doing this work, and somewhere in the middle of it I started noticing the same thing over and over.

A client would come to me wanting tactics. Messaging, content, a rebrand, a new website — whatever the immediate ask was, I'd start there, because that's what she'd asked for. But almost every time, working on the tactic surfaced a noticeable gap sitting underneath it — in the strategy, not the execution. The messaging wasn't landing because nobody had decided who it was actually for. The content felt scattered because the position wasn't settled. The tactic wasn't the problem. It was just the first place the problem became visible.

Once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it. Most brand work treats messaging as the starting point — rewrite the words, hope the rest follows. I started working the other direction: find where the meaning actually breaks down first, then make the decision, then let the words follow from something solid. That order is the whole reason High Ground exists, and it's the same order every client goes through now, whether we're working together for a single engagement or an ongoing one.

I still believe the words matter. I just don't believe they're ever the place to start.

Our Values

Clarity over noise

One true thing, said well, beats ten forgettable things said loudly.

Slow on purpose

Slowing down to actually understand isn't a delay. It's the work.

Integrity over growth-hacking

I won't help a brand promise more than it can deliver. Sustainable is the only kind of growth I'm interested in.

Truth over invention

I don't invent a brand for you. I find the one that's already true and give it language.

Independence over dependency

A client who needs me forever is a client I've failed. Every engagement is built to make itself unnecessary.

Two ways to start.

1:1 Brand Strategy takes your brand through the full process with me, start to finish. The Collective is ongoing support for when things are already built and just need to stay that way. Neither is the “bigger” commitment — see which fits where you are.
